2.4.2 NTP Protocol

The NTP Protocol (Network Time Protocol) can be used to keep our system clock synchronized with several time server available in the Internet.

Objective

Use the network time server to keep system clock accuracy.

Installation

root@server:~# aptitude install ntpdate ntp-doc

Utilization

Firstly, check the Timezone configuration.

Then synchronize system clock with on of the several timeservers from the ntp.org pool:

root@server:~# ntpdate -u pool.ntp.org
28 Oct 12:09:17 ntpdate[2493]: adjust time server 194.117.9.136 offset -0.030742 sec
